4WD Treks Close to Melbourne

My next book will be 4WD Treks Close to Melbourne, a collection of daytrips for 4WD owners based in Melbourne.  The standards will range from easy (dirt roads) to difficult (best done in convoy with recovery gear) and we're aiming for 20 treks.

This will be the second edition of 4WDCTM, but it's been a while since the first edition so this is a ground-up rewrite, and takes account of the recent changes in track conditions since the bushfires and then the floods.

Publication is due by June 2012.  If you want to be notifed of when it arrives please join the mailing list.

More details when we finish it!

In the meantime, check out other Boiling Billy publications such as 4WD Treks Close to Sydney.

Here's some pictures from the recce work, followed by a map of the tracks:

Nope, not going that far away

Nope, not going that far away from Melbourne.  We did look at Enfield but didn't think much of it, and there's better closer in.  Mt Cole and other areas would be in '4WD Trips of Victoria' as opposed to out of Melbourne.
